Art Soma

Art Soma sessions interweave and explore the somatic practices of experiential anatomy, patterns of movement development, and embryology with visual and sensorial art practice.

In these sessions, I use my background in academic art, as well as some tools from Somatic Art Practice® - a new experimental body-based art method created by Marina Tsartsara. It combines the Body Mind Centering® approach of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen with different art disciplines (like Mindfulness Meditation, Drawing, Collage, Sculpture, Creative Writing, Performance, and Improvisation with movement and voice).

In my approach to this practice, I add elements Depth Psychology like active imagination work, symbolism, or dream interpretation, which help us see the final artwork as a 'body story' that we can continue understanding it, communicating with it, and transforming it into something new.

What's important to know - these are not drawing classes, meaning that depicting something specific is not necessary at all. These are practices of playing and experimenting with different materials that our body and its systems inspire us to do.

You can find some examples of somatic artwork in the Gallery or my Instagram page.

LEARN

Who & what is this for?

Art Soma could be interesting for:

  • Anyone for whom the body is a territory worth exploring with love and curiosity.

  • All types of artists who want to explore movement and discover new tools & sources of inspiration for art-making.

  • Dancers and movers who want to uncover new expressive disciplines through their bodies.

  • Psychologists, therapists, teachers, and other professionals working with people, to discover new tools and approaches to the human psyche & embodiment.

  • Parents who want to share creative explorations with their children.

With this practice, you get an opportunity to:

  • Begin creative work with your inner world that you can continue at any time and apply to other situations in your life.

  • Try a new way of working with physical symptoms and limitations, to understand them better.

  • Process the internal material from art, dance, psychology practice, or therapy to integrate it and create from it.

  • Learn a tool to work with yourself and others, especially if you are a parent or a helping professional (psychologist, therapist, etc.)

  • Discover art-making as a playful, intuitive & pleasant practice and get some new creative tools.

  • Take the first step, get a taste, and start creating for your own pleasure.

These sessions are not a replacement for individual therapy. They can be therapeutic, give more information about the somatic symptoms, and provide tools for further explorations. If you're experiencing trauma or are going through a challenging period in life it's always good to be accompanied by a therapist.

"Dear Nadia! I want to share this for your practice — I can truly lean on you. Whether it’s in the way you gently guide a session, in the ideas that emerge from you, or simply in your presence — I feel safe, seen, and deeply supported."

- Oksana (Yoga Teacher, Psychologist)

"During our last session, I felt a deep shift — like I journeyed somewhere, did subconscious work, and suddenly… everything lifted. Everything was technically perfect — the sound, the music, your voice. The group format brought something fresh, and your creative suggestions were amazing. I only wish I’d stayed awake longer to experience it all!"

Natalia (Dancer, Choreographer, Teacher)

"Your words, ‘You are the bod,y’ have stayed with me. They’re so meaningful. After years of being told otherwise, those words feel warm and true. I find myself returning to them again and again. Thank you, Nadia."

- Maria (Somatic Psychologyist, Bodywork practitioner )

What the participants say

Even just seeing everyone was a gift. Nadia, once again, I must say — I love your work. You are an incredible facilitator and creator. Thank you."
